Each 3D modeling program use a different approach on modeling, among which we could name:

Polygonal modeling: a series of points in the three-dimensional space are connected in order to form a Polygon

Curve modeling: different curves define the surfaces

Non-uniform rational B-spline (NURBS): control points determine the shape of the surfaces
